CV NEWS FEED // When a Wisconsin high school allowed a male to compete on the girls’ sports team, parents pulled their daughters off the team, Fox 11 News reported.
The Green Bay Area Public School District told 50 parents and athletes on August 10 that a male would compete and possibly use locker rooms based on his gender “identity,” not his biological sex.
Parents reported their daughters returning from summer games with unusual bruises and welts, reported Fox 11.
“They’re just not used to the ball coming at them that hard,” said one parent, Ryan Gusick. “A lot of these girls are specifically quitting this team because they’re concerned for their safety.”
Several students at the high school, which is remaining unnamed due to confidentiality concerns, do not plan to compete.
The male student has been under testosterone suppression therapy for at least a year, which means he meets the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s requirements.
“The Green Bay Area Public School District cares about the well-being of every student,” the school district said in a statement. “All decisions regarding a student’s ability to participate in co-curricular athletics/activities are made in accordance with Title IX law, Board policy, and WIAA regulations.”
Wisconsin Rep. Shae Sortwell, R-Two Rivers, is advocating for a bill that prevents male pupils from playing on athletic sports teams designated for women.
“It’s about making sure that young ladies are competing on an even footing here with other people that are of the same biological advantages,” said Sortwell.
The “transgender” movement has been disrupting sports and affecting athletes across the nation, from former college swimmer Riley Gaines to female high schoolers at this Wisconsin high school.
In response, advocates for women’s spaces have sought to pass legislation protecting women’s sports and locker rooms, including Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbot, who recently signed legislation to protect women’s sports.
