CV NEWS FEED // West Virginia recently selected the West Virginia Pregnancy Center Coalition to manage the state’s new Mothers and Babies Support Program.
Republican Gov. Jim Justice launched the support program earlier this year to support pregnant women and their families.
“I am proud that the West Virginia Pregnancy Center Coalition has been selected to manage the West Virginia Mothers and Babies Support Program,” he said in a November 30 statement. “This program will provide much-needed support to pregnant women and families with infants, and I am confident that the Pregnancy Center Coalition will do an excellent job of administering it.”
The life-affirming pregnancy coalition offers support and alternatives to abortion. The organization will manage the $1 million grant to ensure that it supports women in need.
The coalition director, Jenny Entsminger, said in a statement that she appreciated that state leaders recognized “the need of our state to support pregnant women and families with practical help as they seek to provide safe and loving care for West Virginia infants.”
The coalition “provides a platform for West Virginia pregnancy help organizations to network, share, pray and support one another with care and respect,” according to their website.
The state program will provide “medical care, parenting and life-skills education, financial assistance, baby supplies and other material assistance,” according to West Virginia State Health Officer Dr. Matthew Christiansen.
Any life-affirming social service organization may benefit from this grant, including pregnancy centers, maternity homes, and adoption agencies. They must be nonprofit groups that provide training and annual evaluations for employees and volunteers. The law prohibits groups that offer or advocate for abortion from receiving funding from this grant.
