Question: Can Ted Cruz beat Donald Trump?
Answer: Yes.
Tomorrow Republican voters in Arizona and Utah will head to the polls to vote for their choice in the ongoing race for the GOP nomination.
The media appears eager to exploit a Clinton v. Trump matchup. But voters still hold the power.
What’s more: Donald Trump can’t become the nominee unless he starts winning over more Republican delegates. So far he’s won 47% of the delegates. But to secure the nomination he needs a majority — so he’ll have to win 55% of the delegates in states yet to vote.
Ted Cruz, meanwhile, continues to confound the Establishment, who thought his win in Iowa was just a flash in the pan. Several victories later, Ted Cruz is the only candidate left with a statistical chance of defeating Trump.
John Kasich remains in the race but has no chance of securing a majority of delegates during the primaries. Kasich’s only hope is a wild and open convention where any candidate could be chosen if no single candidate enters with a majority of delegates.
The latest polling shows Utah voters overwhelmingly favoring the Texas Senator. Cruz is at 53%, Kasich is at 29%, and Trump is in last with an abysmal 11%. If Ted Cruz wins 50% of the vote in Utah, he’ll secure all the delegates.
Utah has a higher percentage of Republicans than any other state in the Union with nearly ⅔ of Utah voters identifying as Republican! But nominating Donald Trump could prove to be a disaster. Polls show Hillary leading Trump in 38-36% — in Utah!
An average of the latest polls in Arizona shows Trump at 38%, Cruz 25%, and Kasich 14%. While a 13-point lead is not insurmountable for Cruz, the truth of the non-Trump vote is again startling. A majority of Republicans continue to prefer someone other than Trump.
Because Arizona awards delegates in a winner-take-all fashion, John Kasich stands little chance of winning, but he could play the role of spoiler, effectively delivering delegates to Donald Trump.
CV urges our members in both Arizona and Utah to vote for Ted Cruz tomorrow — and to encourage your friends to do so as well!
