CV NEWS FEED // Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco spoke Feb. 3 at the Victims of Communism Museum (VOC) in Washington, D.C., discussing the significance of religious liberty and the martyrs of communism.
The event was the result of a partnership between the VOC, the Benedict XVI Institute and the International Religious Freedom Summit, according to the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
As stated on the VOC website, other speakers at the event include former Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, President of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice Katrina Lantos Swett, and VOC President and CEO Eric Patterson.
The organization expressed its gratitude for the speakers, as seen in a Feb. 3 X post from the VOC.
“It was a true honor to host Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, Amb. Sam Brownback, and Dr. Katrina Lantos Swett,” VOC stated in the X post, “for a much-needed conversation on the martyrs of communism and the importance of religious freedom at the VOC Museum.”
As CatholicVote previously reported, Archbishop Cordileone has warned of modern-day communism.
“When people say communism is a thing of the past, they should be cautious,” Archbishop Cordileone said in an interview with Daily Compass, an international Catholic newspaper. “Young people, in particular, are the most vulnerable to the alienating teachings of marxism.”
