CV NEWS FEED // The Vatican will hold a Jubilee of Artists Feb. 15-18, an event that honors a patrimony of art, research, and religious values, according to the director of the Vatican Museums.
Vatican News reports that the Jubilee will begin with a General Jubilee Audience for artists to meet Pope Francis. The Pope will also preside over Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, and the artists will undertake a pilgrimage through the Holy Door of the Basilica.
Later on Feb. 15, the Dicastery for Culture and Education and the Vatican Museum will hold an international meeting with the theme “Sharing Hope — Horizons of Cultural Heritage.”
“The encounter aims to provide a space for museum directors and operators in the art and academic world and cultural institutions to reflect on the current possibilities, methods and languages for the promotion and transmission of the religious and artistic heritage,” Vatican News states.
Feb. 17 will mark the first papal visit to Rome’s Cinecittà film studios, where Pope Francis will meet with artists and others involved in shaping culture.
The Jubilee will also include the opening of two exhibits, the Window Gallery “Conciliazione 5” on Via della Conciliazione, “Global Visual Poetry: Transnational Trajectories in Visual Poetry,” curated by Raffaella Perna, located in Piazza Pio XII, 3.
Vatican Museums director Barbara Jatta told Vatican News, “There is no doubt how important it is not only to have a jubilee for artists, but also for all the people that are in the art world in a wide sense, including curators, directors, professors in art history, people like, like myself, and many others that we have invited for the 15th of February in the Vatican Museums.”
She stated that the Vatican Museums is dedicated to passing down a patrimony of research, arts, and religious values, adding they hope to transmit those religious values to present and future generations.
