CV NEWS FEED // The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called on Catholics across the country to donate during Lent to the Catholic Relief Services Collection to help the impoverished and marginalized.
On the weekend of March 9-10, Catholics can donate to the annual Catholic Relief Services Collection of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), which “helps fund the U.S. bishops’ flagship international relief and development organization,” according to a USCCB press release.
The funds from the collection also support the USCCB Office of International Justice and Peace, the Department of Migration and Refugee Services, the Secretariat on Cultural Diversity in the Church, and the Holy Father’s Relief Fund.
“The initiatives that benefit from The Catholic Relief Services Collection bring hope and change lives of the most impoverished and vulnerable among us,” said Chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on National Collections Bishop James Wall of Gallup, New Mexico.
“It is my hope that you consider the Lord’s graces and blessings at work in your lives and consider how you might make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling,” Wall added.
“In drought-stricken Kenya, the collection underwrote the renovation of water systems that now bring life and hope to millions of people through Catholic Relief Services,” in previous years, the release stated.
The collection has also helped fund a peace conference between North and South Korea, as well as fund training for thousands of diocesan volunteers who help refugees from countries such as Venezuela and Ukraine as they adjust to life in the United States.
