The US bishops are inviting Catholics nationwide to join a daily prayer campaign, beginning July 25 and continuing through Oct. 1, to end taxpayer funding of the abortion industry.
Led by Archbishop Timothy Broglio, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Bishop Daniel Thomas, chair of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, the initiative seeks the intercession of Saint Joseph, Defender of Life.
The bishops are calling on Catholics to pray in direct response to recent legal developments concerning Planned Parenthood’s continued access to taxpayer funding.
Although President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill successfully passed with provisions to block Medicaid funding to abortion providers for one year, a federal court has temporarily restored that funding through a preliminary injunction.
“Americans should not be forced to pay for the killing of preborn children or fund the clinics that kill them,” the bishops wrote in their invitation.
In response to the ongoing legal battle, Archbishop Broglio and Bishop Thomas urged the faithful to turn to prayer as a powerful means of advocacy. They are asking Catholics to say a specific prayer each day to St. Joseph which the bishops have provided as part of the initiative.
