The UK’s military diocese is promoting an app that provides military members with spiritual resources and prayer opportunities no matter where they are in the world.
In a May 28 news release, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference in England and Wales announced the Catholic Bishopric of the Forces’ support of the Catholic Military Connect app, which was first launched in 2022.
“There are times, on active duty and at home, when life in the Forces can be very challenging,” the bishops stated in the release. “Often, it is one’s faith that provides vital support when under pressure.”
According to the app’s description, it contains prayers, testimonies, information, inspirational quotes, answers to hundreds of questions about the faith, opportunities to contact military chaplains from the app, and more. A user said in a review that the app also functions offline, allowing military members in remote locations to still access prayers and spiritual content.
In the release, Bishop Paul Mason of the Bishopric of the Forces explained the importance of using technology for evangelization and spiritual support in the context of the military and the digital age.
“So often in the Church we talk about ‘meeting people where they are’ and this app aims to do just that,” Bishop Mason said. “Young people today are far more likely to access questions of faith via their smartphone rather than turn to books or libraries. In order to meet this reality, the Catholic Military Connect app offers users a range of possibilities: answers to military questions, prayers for the military, testimonies, inspiring quotes, and spiritual first aid.”
The app is an initiative of the Apostolat Militaire International, an organization to support Christian military members across the world, and DeoQuest, formerly Tweeting with GOD, an online forum to ask questions about Christianity and find answers.
