CV NEWS FEED // President Donald J. Trump is set to visit North Carolina on Friday, Jan. 24, to survey the damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene.
The President also plans to visit Los Angeles, WRAL News announced, where wind-driven fires have claimed at least 24 lives, burned more than 37,000 acres, and devastated countless homes and schools.
Trump addressed the condition of North Carolina’s recovery in his Jan. 20 inaugural address, remarking that those affected by the storm have been neglected by authorities.
“Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency,” he said, “as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina being treated so badly and other states who are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago.”
Trump secured his third consecutive victory in North Carolina during the 2024 presidential election. He visited Buncombe County in October to assess the damage from Helene and has made at least 14 other trips to the state in the past year.
Former President Joe Biden promised victims of the Los Angeles fires that the government would cover “100% of the cost of measures to protect lives and property in Southern California for six months,” CatholicVote reported — a benefit not extended to victims of Helene.
