CV NEWS FEED // Former President Donald Trump has promised homeschooling parents tax relief on their education costs, up to $10,000 per year per child.
In a video posted on X, Trump stated, “When I am reelected, I will do everything I can to support parents who make the courageous choice of homeschool.”
Trump referenced the policy under his presidency where parents could use 529 education savings to spend up to $10,000 a year on tuition without paying taxes. He promised that under his next presidency, this policy would extend to homeschooling families’ expenses.
“I will also work to ensure that every homeschool family is entitled to full access to the benefits available to non-homeschool students,” the former president continued, “including participating in athletic programs, clubs, after-school activities, educational trips and more.”
“To every homeschool family, I will be your champion,” he promised.
CatholicVote reported in 2021 that homeschooling has surged in the United States in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown.
In April 2020, only 5.4% of parents homeschooled their children, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In September of 2020, that number rose to 11%.
The number was even more marked among black families. From the spring to the fall of 2020, the number of black homeschooling families rose from 3.3% to 16.1%.
