President Donald Trump announced Monday afternoon in a social media post that a ceasefire deal “has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran,” adding the war will be considered “ENDED” by later this week.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!” Trump wrote on Truth Social just hours after Iran launched a retaliatory military operation against a US base in Qatar. “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”
“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World,” he added. “During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
Hours earlier, Iran launched multiple missiles at a US military base in Qatar, though all were intercepted, according to US and Qatari officials.
Reuters reported Monday that Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani “secured Tehran’s agreement to the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Iran during a call with Iranian officials held after Iran’s strikes” on the US base.
A Trump administration official said the “phone call came after U.S. president Donald Trump told Qatar’s emir that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire and asked for Doha’s help persuading Tehran to also agree to the ceasefire deal,” Reuters reported.
The New York Times reported that three Iranian officials said Tehran had informed Qatar of the planned strike in advance. The officials described the attack as a symbolic response, comparing it to a similar strike in 2020, when Iran warned Iraq ahead of firing missiles at a US base in Iraq after the killing of Iran’s top general.
Fox News and CNN separately reported that the US had preemptively relocated most of its exposed aircraft from the American Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in the days leading up to the attack.
In another Monday Truth Social Post, President Donald Trump confirmed that no Americans were harmed and said Iran had warned the US ahead of the strike.
“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered,” Trump wrote. “There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was ‘set free,’ because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction.”
“I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done… I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice,” he added, “which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured.”
Trump later wrote, “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”
Qatar, which often serves as a diplomatic intermediary in the region, strongly condemned the attack.
“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari wrote on X. “We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.”
Qatar confirmed that its air defenses successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles, with no reported casualties. Al Ansari emphasized Qatar’s right to respond but urged both sides to halt military action and return to the negotiating table.
“We call for the immediate cessation of all military actions and for a serious return to the negotiating table and dialogue,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the number of missiles fired matched the number of bombs dropped by the US in its June 22 strike, insisting the attack was not aimed at Qatar, which it called “our friendly and brotherly country.”
The latest round of hostilities traces back to June 13, when Israel struck Iranian nuclear sites, triggering a series of retaliatory attacks that led to the June 22 US strike authorized by Trump.
As CatholicVote previously reported, Trump determined that diplomacy was failing and warned Tehran of severe consequences if it escalated further.
In an address following the US airstrikes, Trump said that if Iran failed to make peace, “There will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.”
