Tim Kaine, the Democratic nominee for vice president, recently stated his position on gun control:
“I’m kind of a, look, traditional Catholic. I don’t like — personally, I’m opposed to gun violence…
“I deeply believe — and not just as a matter of politics, but even as a matter of morality, that matters about shooting school children and pre-planned terrorism and psychopathic mental illness and magazine size are in the personal realm. They’re moral decisions for individuals to make for themselves. And the last thing we need is government intruding into those personal decisions.”
Wow. Surprising, right?
Right, because that’s not really his position on gun control. But it is his position on abortion. The real quote:
“I’m kind of a, look, traditional Catholic. I don’t like — personally, I’m opposed to abortion…
“I deeply believe — and not just as a matter of politics, but even as a matter of morality, that matters about reproduction and intimacy and relationships and contraception are in the personal realm. They’re moral decisions for individuals to make for themselves. And the last thing we need is government intruding into those personal decisions.”
It was once remarked that the vice presidency isn’t worth more than a pitcher of warm spit. But maybe it is worth something more.
Like thirty pieces of silver maybe.
