Registration is open for the Thomistic Institute’s upcoming 13th Annual Aquinas Philosophy Workshop!
Each summer, the Thomistic Institute and the Catholic and Dominican Institute co-sponsor a four-day workshop for graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and non-student lovers of philosophy.
The conference will take place at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY, from May 29 – June 2. The registration deadline is May 10.
Among the featured speakers are Fr. James Brent, O.P., Prof. Michael Gorman, and Sr. Anna Wray, O.P. This year’s topic is “St. Thomas Aquinas on Divine Simplicity.”
Founded in 2009, the Thomistic Institute is part of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC.
According to the Institute’s website, “Promoting Catholic truth in the contemporary university is the primary focus of our work. We do this through our campus chapters program, academic conferences, and intellectual retreats.”
Student-founded Thomistic Institute campus chapters exist at more than 80 universities.
These academic clubs organize lectures with top-notch scholars on Catholic philosophy and theology in addition to reading groups, debates, and conferences. The chapters program aims to expose students to the riches of the Catholic intellectual tradition and help them explore it further.
“The thought of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Universal Doctor of the Church, is our touchstone,” the website notes.
The Thomistic Institute also sponsors lectures in various campus locations around the country which are often free and open to the public.

In addition to their work on campuses, the Institute produces the popular YouTube series Aquinas 101, which “introduces viewers to the philosophical and theological world of St. Thomas Aquinas and proposes ways that his thought can help us engage with contemporary concerns.”
