We already knew that Pope Francis would be auctioning off the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide that had been donated to him, and that the proceeds would go to help renovate a homeless shelter and soup kitchen run by the charity group Caritas Rome.
But nobody expected the Holy Hog would raise $326,500.
Not exactly chump change. That is either going to be the Versailles of homeless shelters (future headline: “Pope Scolds Bling Bums”) or there is going to be some damn good soup being ladled out for the foreseeable future. You can’t really condemn trickle down when it’s lobster bisque and it’s trickling down the beards of homeless guys.
According to Bonhams, the London-based auction house who handled the sale, bidding on the Papal Chopper lasted for all of six minutes before the hammer fell. The sale was met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd attending the auction, which took place in Paris.
So who is the new owner of the Popercycle?
Bonhams won’t say, and revealed only that it was “a private buyer in Europe.”
“Just don’t scratch it.” “Yeah whatever, it’s mine now…don’t you have work to do?”
