CV NEWSFEED // On Monday, LOOPcast hosts Erika Ahern and Tom Pogasic went live with special guest Jeremy Tate to discuss the issues of being Catholic, pro-life, and in politics.
They also tackled how the media mischaracterizes conservative values.
Pogasic referenced a clip of vice presidential nominee JD Vance speaking during a segment of Meet the Press on MSNBC about abortion.
Vance was asked to commit to saying that there would not be a federal ban on abortions, to which he responded:
I can absolutely commit that. Donald Trump has been as clear about that as possible. I think it’s important to step back and say, “What has Donald Trump actually said on the abortion question? And how is it different from what Kamala Harris and the democrats have said?”
After taking aim at the media Vance explained Trump’s stance on the issue of abortion:
Donald Trump wants to end this culture war over this particular topic. If California wants to have a different abortion policy from Ohio, then Ohio has to respect California, and California has to respect Ohio. Donald Trump’s view is that we want the individual states and their individual cultures, and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions because we don’t want to have a non-stop federal conflict over this issue.

In the clip, Vance was further asked if Donald Trump would veto a federal abortion ban to which Vance responded, “I think he would. He has said explicitly that he would.”
Pogasic asked Ahern and Tate about their opinions on the video.
“I think Jeremey should go first,” laughed Ahern.
“It’s sad, what’s going on here,” Tate responded. “This is kind of the race for the moderate middle as they would say in politics. I am not happy with it. There is in some ways a lack of courage on display.”
Tate challenged listeners to look at law from a Catholic perspective.
“Look as Catholics we believe the law is pedagogical, we believe that the law is a teacher and that our sensibilities about what is right and what is wrong is shaped by the law itself.”
“I agree with that,” responded Ahern.
Ahern pointed out how the media has propagated the lie that Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers are seeking a federal abortion ban.
“They’ve convinced them [Americans] and it’s simply not true, so I think it was smart of JD Vance to bring that up. She obviously didn’t hear him, or she just repeated her thing of ‘the ban on abortion.’”
Ahern then suggested that Trump and Vance focus on building a culture of life, instead of engaging with the left on false arguments.
“I wish what he has said is, ‘That is a ridiculous question, that question has no meaning because it will never even happen under the current conditions. Here is what we are doing to build a culture of life.’”
