CV NEWS FEED // Retail giant Target has responded to public pressure by removing a number of shocking items from its online store amid a massive drop in stock value.
The news comes after outraged parents called for a boycott over Target’s decisions to sell “trans”-themed children’s clothing and hire a satanic designer.
The boycott has already had massive success, with Target’s stock value dropping 12% in the past week.
“A week ago Wednesday before the controversy erupted, Target’s stock closed at $160.96 a share, giving the big-box chain a market capitalization of $74.3 billion,” reported Ariel Zilber of the New York Post. “As of early trading on Thursday, however, shares of the company were trading off 1% at $141.76.”
The drop led to nine billion dollars off the company’s market capitalization.
Target has also removed some of the most controversial items from stores and the website, as well as moving “pride displays” to the back of some stores in the southern region.
The designer Abprallen, who promoted Satanic ideas in her designs, caused an uproar among customers on social media. Abprallen, who claims to be a man, is a woman who had her breasts removed. It is unknown at what age she underwent the procedure.
Target has removed the three products she designed from their website.
Target claimed that the decision to move some of the pride displays to the back of the store was solely due to “violent confrontations.” Observers noted, however, that the company’s claim did not explain the need to remove the items from the online shopping platform as well.
“Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior,” according to a Target statement.
Many customers continue to call for a boycott of Target, wanting to see the same success that the Bud Light boycott has enjoyed.
“I think that Target really soon is about to find out what happens when conservatives shop or rather don’t shop, because they are about to get Bud Light-ed,” said Fox News reporter Tomi Lahren.
