CV NEWS FEED // A suspect has been indicted on a total of seven felony and misdemeanor counts after his reported involvement in a shooting that caused a Cleveland Catholic parish to suspend its weekly meal program.
According to news outlet Cleveland.com, after the shooting took place St. Malachi announced it was suspending its meal program, which has run for over 40 years.
News outlet WKYC reported on Aug. 8 that a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted 35-year-old Richo Samuels Jr. for involvement in a shooting that took place on July 29 near St. Malachi Parish in Cleveland during the parish’s weekly meal program. Among the counts is “Discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises,” according to WKYC. Three people were injured in the shooting, including Samuels.
“Officials say the building was not the target of the shooting,” WKYC reported, and Samuels and two others, Randall Russell and Rahmean Ponzie, were arrested in connection to the shooting. The charges against Ponzie “have currently been dismissed, but will be refiled,” the WKYC report noted.
A grand jury will examine Russell’s case, according to WKYC.
