CV NEWS FEED // Surfer Bethany Hamilton will serve as the keynote speaker at the National March for Life on January 24, 2025.
The March for Life’s website describes Hamilton’s life as “one of the biggest comeback stories of our era.” A skilled surfer from a young age, Hamilton lost her arm to a 14-foot tiger shark. A month later, she started surfing again. Two years later, she won her first national surfing title.
The March for Life website states, “Bethany’s foundation of faith has been her backbone; her source of truth, hope, and strength.”
The mother of four is a public speaker, runs a mother-daughter mentorship program called ‘Ohana, and still competes in surfing.
Hamilton states on her website, “I have been able to overcome some of the most challenging obstacles because of the grace of God and because of His plan.”
She adds, “The strength, identity and foundation of my life is in the faith that God has given me. With God I am unstoppable!”
Hamilton continues, “No, I’m not perfect. And Yes, I have crazy hard days and times in my life, but I’m rooted in my faith and the truths of God. This is how I know that whatever huge life waves or gnarly challenges come my way, the Lord is with me and on my side. Because of Him, I am Unstoppable.”
Hamilton’s story inspired the 2011 movie Soul Surfer. Her later life as a wife and mother who continues to surf is explored in her documentary, Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable.
