CV NEWS FEED // CatholicVote will begin its third annual St. Michael Novena on September 20, 2024. This year, the novena will be prayed for the intention of the 2024 election.
“Our 3rd Annual Novena to St. Michael – leading up to the Feast of the Archangels on September 29 – will once again draw Catholics across the country together to ask Our Lord and St. Michael to do battle for us,” notes the novena’s page.
This page explains how “the freedoms and values we cherish as Americans are being threatened by political movements that reject the Gospel’s message.”
“The outcome of this election will be determined as much by the spiritual battle we face as the battle for votes,” said CatholicVote’s Brian Burch in a message to supporters. He then invited readers to “join us in praying for the soul of our great nation.”
During last year’s novena, 24,000 Catholics prayed together for the protection of all our churches and the Catholics in America. This year, over 8,000 readers signed up to participate within the first 72 hours.
“We are anticipating our highest participation ever, given the temperature in our country right now,” said CatholicVote Vice President Joshua Mercer. “With two assassination attempts on the former president, escalating violence, and the absurd nomination of Kamala Harris, people want to do something to bring peace to our land. Prayer is where we start, and Catholics know that.”
The novena page says, “We know that many of the challenges our country faces stem directly from the greater spiritual battle at hand – one for the very soul of our beloved nation.”
As Catholic beliefs are being threatened by ideologies present in the current political climate, it is crucial for Catholics to lean into prayer. Giving our concerns to God and asking for the strength to defend our faith in this battle is the most powerful way in which we can change the future of this country.
We are reminded of Christ’s words in Mark’s Gospel, “that some demons ‘can only be driven out by prayer and fasting.’”
