CV NEWS FEED // Angel Studios’ highly anticipated film “Sound of Freedom” reportedly cleared $20 million in presales ahead of its July 4 release.
The live tracker of the film’s ticket sales has continued to surge, with nearly 1.3 million tickets sold over the past five days, rapidly approaching the two-million milestone set by Angel Studios in remembrance of the estimated two million children trafficked around the world.
Starring Jim Caviezel, “Sound of Freedom” is based on the true story of a former Homeland Security officer, Tim Ballard, who quit his job to found an anti-human trafficking organization that specifically works to rescue children from pedophile networks.
Although it was completed in 2018 by 20th Century Fox, Disney refused to release and promote the film after it acquired the studio. Netflix and Amazon likewise declined to represent the film on their platforms according to one of the film’s producers, Eduardo Verastegui.
Angel Studios acquired rights to distribute the film internationally last March.
Caviezel described the film that Hollywood blacklisted for perceived “conservative” bias as “a threat” to the sex trafficking network in the United States, which is the largest in the world.
Jeffrey Harmon, who is a co-founder of Angel Studios, has spoken out alongside Caviezel against the film’s political characterization. “Sound of Freedom” is “NOT a conservative film,” Harmon said. “It is not political at all.”
Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman echoed these sentiments in his review, writing “you needn’t hold extreme beliefs to experience ‘Sound of Freedom’ as a compelling movie that shines an authentic light on one of the crucial criminal horrors of our time, one that Hollywood has mostly shied away from.”
“Sound of Freedom” is playing in over 2,600 locations across the country. Tickets are on sale at the Angel Studios website, and the option to “pay it forward” and purchase a ticket for someone else can be found here.
