This isn’t new legislation. The House passed a similar bill in 2013 by a strong 228-197 vote. So there’s no reason to delay this legislation.
The polls indicate a majority of Americans — including a majority of women — favor protecting unborn children after 20 weeks who feel pain.
Of course, the bill is not perfect. We will not stop fighting until all unborn children are protected by law, but this is an important step in the right direction and it will save many lives.
A long delay in the House could hamper the momentum we need to get this important legislation passed by the Senate, where Democrats will use whatever parliamentary tools at their disposal to prevent this commonsense bill.
Republican candidates counted on our vote last November.
