CV NEWS FEED // The satanic temple of Atlanta responded to the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s demand to return any consecrated hosts, stating that they had no consecrated hosts.
Archbishop Gregory Hartmayer stated in a letter published by the Georgia Bulletin that lawyers for the Diocese wrote the satanic temple before a “black mass” took place on October 25, demanding that they return any stolen consecrated hosts and that they refrain from using consecrated hosts during their blasphemous event.
The temple’s lawyers responded, denying that they had any consecrated hosts, and stating that they would not use a consecrated host during the “black mass.”
Archbishop Hartmayer wrote, “While their letter continued to mock the Eucharist and our beliefs, it also demonstrated an understanding of how seriously we have taken this threat to our core belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.”
He continued, “They called their event entertainment and defended their right to express their beliefs by mocking ours. But importantly, the representative for The Satanic Temple of Atlanta has now provided us with their assurances that they do not have, and will not be using at their event tonight, a consecrated host.”
The Archbishop was prepared to pursue a court order if the satanic group did not cooperate, and he signed an affidavit “explaining to the court why this request was so urgent and serious.” He published an excerpt from the affidavit in his statement:
… In the Catholic Church the host is typically a small, unleavened wafer of bread, made from water and wheat flour. A host is simply a piece of bread. A Consecrated Host, however, is a host that has undergone transubstantiation and is now the body and blood of Jesus Christ. To Catholics, the Consecrated Host, making the person of Jesus Christ himself present, is the most sacred, respected, and revered thing in the world.
Archbishop Hartmayer exhorted the faithful to continue prayers of reparation, and to pray for those who do not know the love of Jesus.
He wrote, “Let us pray for those who turn to darkness. Let us pray that they will come to know that they are welcome in the arms of Jesus; that they will come to experience his true presence and experience true conversion.”
