
According to people who know about these things, the dried blood of St. Januarius miraculously liquified after the reliquary holding the blood was handed to Pope Francis at an event on Saturday in Naples.
St. Januarius was a fourth century bishop and martyr. The vial of the saint’s dried blood is reported to turn to liquid on certain feast days throughout the year. The last time the miracle occurred for a pope was in 1848, when Pope Pius IX held the reliquary.
