A record number of Catholic educators are set to gather in Nebraska July 15-18 at the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education’s National Conference, an event that equips educators with the resources they need to bring authentically Catholic education to their classrooms.
Held in Lincoln, Nebraska, the conference’s theme this year is “Cultivating the Heart.” More than 500 educators from across the nation will attend the four-day event, and hundreds more will tune in through a livestream.
Hannah Naughton, communications manager for the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education (ICLE), said via email that this year’s attendees include superintendents, principals, teachers, clergy, religious leaders, and five bishops and archbishops. Different event tracks will be available to educators based on their familiarity with a Catholic liberal arts education, Naughton added.
According to the event website, the tracks will “enrich the life of the mind” and include academic presentations on a variety of topics, such as literature, math, theology, and music.
Highlighted speakers at the conference include Bishop Thomas Daly of Spokane, Washington, and Bishop James Conley of Lincoln, both of whom have demonstrated strong commitments to promoting Catholic education. Bishop Daly was formerly a high school teacher, while Bishop Conley has written extensively on education as someone whose life was transformed by the liberal arts.
Other speakers include Peter Crawford, academic dean of ICLE; Pamela Patnode, instructor at the Saint Paul Seminary Catechetical Institute; Kyle Washut, president of Wyoming Catholic College; and Jonathan Pageau, creator of The Symbolic World.
The conference also includes spiritual opportunities for the educators, including Mass, Confession, Eucharistic adoration, morning prayer, and guided visio divina.
