He does the Sign of the Cross before every kick, and more than once, NFL kicker and good Catholic boy Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens has been the difference between winning and losing for his team (which won the Super Bowl in 2013, also with the help of now-retired fellow Catholic Matt Birk).
Recently, Tucker and wife Amanda, who got married in Austin, Texas, on March 28, announced that they’re expecting their first child, a boy, in the spring.
When he’s not kicking field goals for the Ravens, one of Tucker’s other talents is singing. That was on display on Thursday, Dec. 10, as he performed Schubert’s Ave Maria at the Catholic Charities Christmas Festival, held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore.
UPDATE: The original YouTube video I posted has been deleted (it looked a bit dodgy anyway), but here’s the FB post (click on the linked date). And click here to go straight to a good-quality video at the Ravens’ homepage.
Tucker swapped his uniform for a tux last night for a Catholic Charities benefit concert with the Concert Artists of Baltimore (cabmusic.org).Nice pipes, Tuck.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, the Ravens, my second-favorite team, faces off with my favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks. Thank goodness the Hawks have plenty of Christian players, including QB Russell Wilson, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and Catholic tight end Luke Willson, because the Faith is strong with Tucker.
