CV NEWS FEED // A Catholic church in Connecticut is hosting an exhibition of eight rare relics of the Passion on the eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is on September 14.
The exhibition is made possible through the Apostolate for Holy Relics, which stewards several collections of relics, including the relics of the Passion. According to its website, the Apostolate offers programs and presentations that combine opportunities to venerate the relics with meditation.
St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, Connecticut, will host the presentation, “Call from the Crucified Heart,” at 7 p.m. on September 13. The event will include music as well as times for prayer and veneration of the relics.
The eight relics of the Passion include a piece of the True Cross, a piece of the table from the Last Supper, a piece of the column at which Jesus was scourged, a piece of the Crown of Thorns, a replica of one of the nails used to crucify Jesus, made with filings from the True Nails, and a thread from the exterior wrapping of the Shroud of Turin.
The collection also includes a piece of bone belonging to St. Longinus, who pierced the side of Jesus with his lance, and an effigy of Veronica’s veil that was touched to the original veil.
According to a news release, collections like the relics of the Passion are usually only seen in Rome or the Holy Land.
“Having the opportunity to be in the presence of these holy relics is sure to be an experience that will help you connect with the very roots of your faith,” the Apostolate added in the news release.
