The Catholic Accountability Project (CAP) has released a new report entitled Rainbow Wolves which investigates New Ways Ministry (NWM), an organization that aims to dismantle Catholic teachings on sex, the family, and marriage.
Following the Vatican’s release of the controversial document Fiducia Supplicans, NWM was one of the pro-LGBT groups within the Church that joined the secular media in celebrating the document, claiming it was a “step” toward the Church embracing same-sex “marriage.”
Based in Maryland, New Ways Ministry was founded in 1977 by Sister Jeannine Gramick and Fr. Robert Nugent, who is now deceased.
NWM describes itself as “a Catholic outreach that educates and advocates for equity, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ persons, equipping leaders to build bridges of dialogue within the Church and civil society.”
The report notes, however, that NWM primarily engages in secular political activism, aiming to “confront the Church on behalf of the world rather than the other way around.”
After years of defying Church authorities and even undergoing formal suppression in 1999, NWM has slowly gained influence within the Vatican in recent years, as the release of Fiducia Supplicans demonstrates.

The new CAP report gives a comprehensive analysis of the secular-leftist ideologies of NWM’s founders, the organization’s advocacy for abortion and “transgenderism,” and the funding NWM receives from pro-abortion and LGBT sources.
Rainbow Wolves also investigates Fr. James Martin’s involvement in NWM and how together they are facilitating the infiltration of LGBT ideology into the Church.
Vice President of CatholicVote, Joshua Mercer, said:
Authentic Catholic teaching on human sexuality is desperately needed today more than ever. But New Ways Ministry is trying to sabotage Catholic teaching at every turn. New Ways Ministry wants Catholics to reject Christ’s teaching and to embrace the Sexual Revolution instead.
CatholicVote President Brian Burch noted that although faithful Catholics will doubtless find the new report from CAP shocking, they cannot remain ignorant of NWM’s activism and influence in the Church.
Catholics must be aware of the dangerous intentions of New Ways Ministry to subvert the teachings of the Catholic Church on homosexuality. To prevent more souls from being led astray, it’s time that this organization’s flagrant and shameful defiance of Church authority be exposed.
