After receiving threats from pro-abortion activists, a Quebec hotel has canceled a scheduled pro-life gala dinner just days before the city’s March for Life.
The cancellation came just three days before the pro-life gathering was set to begin May 31.
Georges Buscemi, president of the Quebec Life Coalition, shared the update in a message posted May 28, calling the hotel’s decision “deeply regrettable” and linking it to a broader cultural trend.
“Sadly, it’s not surprising that pro-abortion militants would stoop to such tactics,” he wrote. “This aligns completely with the abortion mentality: a disregard for the lives of the most innocent — the unborn — inevitably leads to disrespecting the lives of those already born.”
In addition to the hotel cancellation, Quebec City police notified organizers that the march would not be permitted to include a stage. Authorities cited logistical concerns, suggesting it could “complicate event management.”
Buscemi criticized the decision, warning that it may encourage further acts of intimidation from pro-abortion groups.
“This attitude is deeply regrettable because it indirectly encourages pro-abortion groups to continue intimidating their political opponents,” he said.
Despite the disruption with the gala, March for Life supporters remained committed to going forward with the wider event.
As of May 30, Buscemi confirmed from the site in front of Quebec’s National Assembly that preparations were underway. The day’s schedule includes live music, speeches, a march through the city, and testimonies from post-abortive women and an abortion survivor.
Organizers have raised over $11,000 toward the original $15,000 fundraising goal. They are seeking additional donations to offset unexpected costs stemming from the cancellations linked to pro-abortion threats.
