CV NEWS FEED// The President of Catholic University of America has asked students to pray for the repose of the soul of a man who was murdered near CUA’s campus this week.
President Peter Kilpatrick’s July 29th letter stated that the victim had collapsed from a bullet wound on Michigan Avenue NE, “directly in front of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.” Though the incident was not on campus, CUA “sheltered in place” until the police confirmed that there were no threats to the University’s community.
The victim, Ruben Jesus Muñoz-Romero, was a 38-year-old father with seven children. His son Robert started a GoFundMe page to assist his children.
According to NBC Washington 4, Muñoz-Romero was a food delivery driver who was described by his brother Samuel Muñoz as “[a] hardworking man. A man who worked so he could send money to his family, to his mother, to all of his loved ones.”
NBC Washington 4 reported that “police believe Muñoz-Romero was shot somewhere other than ‘the immediate area of Catholic University’s campus’ and then traveled by moped to the place where he died.”
Kilpatrick asked in his letter, “Please join me in praying for the soul of the victim who lost his life, and offer our prayers and our sincerest condolences to his friends and family.” He said it appeared that Muñoz-Romero has no connections to Catholic University.
Police are investigating the incident, Kilpatrick noted. He asked people to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 if they have any information about the shooting.
