CV NEWS FEED // Police are investigating a Sunday night shooting at Illinois State University (ISU) that left one person injured and prompted an ongoing search for a suspect.
The incident occurred April 27 just before 8 p.m. at ISU’s Bone Student Center in Normal, Illinois, NBC Chicago reported. School officials issued an emergency alert warning students to stay away from the center and nearby streets.
“Police are looking for [a] slender black male 5’10”, black afro hair style, wearing all black. Last seen running south from University and College Streets,” the university said in social media posts.
Authorities confirmed that one person was shot. The victim, who is not an ISU student, was attending a registered student organization event at the time. No further information about the victim’s condition has been released, according to NBC Chicago.
Photos and video from the scene showed a heavy police presence surrounding the Bone Student Center, with yellow tape blocking the entrances as officers secured the area.
In an email to students, university officials explained that police first received reports of gunfire at 7:40 p.m. during the student event. As of Monday morning, police are still actively searching for the suspect, who fled on foot from the scene.
Despite the shooting, the university did not issue a shelter-in-place order. The Bone Student Center will remain closed as of April 28, and all scheduled activities there have been canceled. The university’s classes, however, will continue as planned.
