CV NEWS FEED // The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is joining Archbishop of Philadelphia Nelson J. Perez to lead a prayer service for peace this weekend at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, is currently on a pastoral mission in the United States to support Ukraine and advocate for the return of justice and peace for his faithful, according to the CatholicPhilly, the archdiocese’s news outlet.
The prayer service will take place Feb. 16 at the cathedral basilica in observance of the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, the CatholicPhilly reported. Cardinal Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York is also expected to attend the service.
The prayer service coincides with a 24-hour spiritual renewal program celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025. Hosted by the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, the program will begin with a candlelight vigil Feb. 15 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and will conclude with an evening blessing.
According to the Archeparchy website, devout participants in the renewal program will receive a Plenary Jubilee Indulgence through the sacrament of reconciliation and by praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.
