CV NEWS FEED // More than a quarter of American adults say that podcasts are one of their sources of political and election news, according to recent data from Pew Research.
According to Pew, the share of American adults who sometimes or often get their news from podcasts (27%) is down slightly from 30% in 2023, but the percentage has increased from the 23% recorded in both 2021 and 2022.
The majority of Americans using podcasts for news are under 50 years old. Six percent of respondents aged 18-29 preferred podcasts as their news source, with 7% aged 30-49 and 3% aged 50-64 saying the same.
The data come shortly after both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have begun doing media interviews on podcasts with younger listeners in attempts to boost their popularity. Harris made an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in early October, while Trump has been interviewed on the Nelk Boys podcast and recently announced that he will be featured on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
However, only 5% of the surveyed Americans exclusively preferred podcasts as their main source of political news. Pew also found that the popularity of print newspapers and radio has declined somewhat, with 42% sometimes or often using the radio for news, down from 51% in 2023. Pew also recorded the lowest-ever popularity rate of physical newspapers, with only 26% responding that they sometimes or often read them.
Digital devices were by far the most popular sources of news, with 86% reporting that they used them sometimes or often. News apps or websites (65%), search engine results (66%), or social media (54%) were found to be the most common ways in which Americans use their devices for news.
