CV NEWS FEED // Parents are signing a petition boycotting Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for allowing two “nonbinary” performers to participate.
The petition by One Million Moms at American Family Association (AFA) protests the inclusion of two “nonbinary” Broadway actors Justin David Sullivan and Alex Newell in the parade’s performances. It has received over 36,000 signatures.
Sullivan will perform scenes from the musical & Juliet, in which he plays the role of “May,” Juliet’s “trans”-identifying best friend. Newell will perform scenes from the musical Shucked, in which he plays the female character Lulu.
“This news has hit a nerve with parents because the once holiday tradition is no longer family-friendly,” Director of One Million Moms at AFA Monica Cole stated in a press release.
Though it is unclear exactly what the performances will include, the petition states that “unless [viewers] are forewarned about it, this year’s holiday parade will potentially expose tens of millions of viewers at home to the liberal LGBTQ agenda.”
“With the help of extensive media coverage,” Cole said, “the ‘Say No to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade’ petition… continues to gain momentum since Macy’s is leaving conservative families with no other choice than to not watch this year’s parade.”
She continued:
Conservative parents have had enough and are signing to urge Macy’s to not push the LGBTQ agenda under the disguise of entertainment. This news has hit a nerve with parents because the once holiday tradition is no longer family-friendly, and pushing the gay agenda during primetime is completely unnecessary since this is extremely confusing for children having men perform in drag, not to mention damaging to our society.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade included “nonbinary” and “trans”-identifying performers in 2018 and 2021.
