CV NEWS FEED // U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is homosexual and pro-abortion, is reportedly a potential Democrat candidate for Michigan governor in 2026, according to the Independent.
Buttigieg resides in Traverse City with his partner, Chasten, with whom he acquired twins. If elected, he would become Michigan’s first openly gay governor. His candidacy and record have already drawn significant criticism, especially from conservatives.
Buttigieg’s controversial stances on abortion have been a focal point of this criticism. During a recent fundraiser titled “White Dudes for Harris,” he claimed that abortion increases men’s freedom.
“Men are more free when the leader of this country supports access to birth control and access to abortion,” Buttigieg stated.
He argued that abortion is integral to freedom, particularly in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s overturn. His remarks sparked outrage among pro-life advocates who accused him of promoting neglect and irresponsibility.
“Children shouldn’t have to die just so men can use a woman’s body for pleasure with no consequence,” pro-life activist Abby Johnson declared on social media.
Other critics echoed this sentiment. Conservative commentator Vince Coglianese called Buttigieg’s remarks “wicked,” while Christine Yeargin argued that abortion fosters “neglect, coercion, and the abandonment of women while simultaneously ending a life.”
Despite the backlash, Buttigieg doubled down on his position, framing it as a matter of individual rights and freedom. His progressive stance aligns with that of Vice President Kamala Harris, another vocal supporter of unrestricted abortion access.
Buttigieg’s abortion rhetoric is not new. During a 2019 town hall, he avoided taking a clear stance on limiting abortion at any stage of pregnancy, stating, “I trust women to draw the line when it’s their own bodies.”
He also dismissed concerns about late-term abortions as “hypothetical,” despite their occurrence. Moreover, as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg opposed the establishment of a pro-life pregnancy center, further cementing his reputation as a staunch supporter of abortion rights.
Buttigieg’s personal life has also drawn scrutiny from conservative circles. Critics argue that his and his homosexual partner’s adoption of twins deprives the children of a mother, a move pro-family advocates see as emblematic of the broader redefinition of marriage and the family.
Buttigieg’s close association with Harris also raises questions about his potential future in national politics. At the same “White Dudes for Harris” fundraiser, which reportedly raised over $4 million, Buttigieg praised Harris’s campaign theme of “freedom” and hinted at broader ambitions within the Democratic Party.
