CV NEWS FEED // The Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania, is hosting its annual Lenten Holy Hour series, where Scranton Bishop Joseph Bambera is set to hold a holy hour in every deanery beginning March 6.
In honor of Jubilee Year 2025, the Diocese of Scranton is encouraging parishioners to be pilgrims of hope and embrace time spent in prayer before the Lord in Eucharistic adoration, according to a Feb. 20 article from The Catholic Light, the diocese’s news outlet.
The Lenten series will take place in each of the 12 diocesan deaneries, and all holy hours will commence at 7 p.m., as stated on the diocese website.
The first holy hour of the Lenten season will begin March 6 at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Pittson, Pennsylvania.
The Diocese of Scranton is also providing material for parishioners to prepare their minds and hearts for the 40-day Lenten journey.
The diocese is emphasizing the significance of hope during the Lenten season, urging parishioners to pray with hope, fast with hope, and give alms with hope, according to the Catholic Light.
The Feb. 20 article quoted Pope Francis from his 2017 TED Talk, reminding the faithful of what it means to truly have hope.
“Feeling hopeful does not mean to be optimistically naïve and ignore the tragedy humanity is facing,” the Holy Father said. “Hope is the virtue of a heart that doesn’t lock itself into darkness, that doesn’t dwell on the past, does not simply get by in the present, but is able to see a tomorrow.”
