CV NEWS FEED // Ken and Mary Ann Duppong, parents of Servant of God Michelle Duppong, shared their advice for Catholic parents during a July 18 interview with EWTN’s Montse Alvarado at the National Eucharistic Congress.
Michelle, who was a Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) missionary, is being investigated as a potential saint.
The documentary about Michelle, “Radiating Joy: The Michelle Duppong Story,” will be shown at 3:30 p.m. on July 19 at Hyatt Regency Indianapolis during the National Eucharistic Congress, and will be in theaters this November.
Before an audience of nearly 50,000 in Lucas Oil Stadium, Ken and Mary Ann explained how the Faith became the center of their lives, and how they were able to instill this in their six children.
When Ken’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, the family began praying the daily Rosary for her, which sparked a profound devotion to Our Lady of Fatima.
“With that, Our Lady led us deeper into our faith,” Mary Ann explained. This devotion inspired them to consecrate their family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which Mary Ann described as a “huge” moment in the family’s faith life.
The Duppongs highlighted the power of prayer and example in raising faithful children.
“If you use bad language, they will use bad language,” Ken noted. “If you go to Mass, they see you do that and they will do that in the future. Everything you do, they watch. And that is probably the best thing you can do: give them a good example.”
Although their children are all adults now, the Duppongs continue to introduce new prayers for their family, demonstrating that it’s never too late for families to grow in holiness, regardless of when the journey begins.
“We have just recently added a unity prayer in the mornings and evenings, praying for protection for our family, our children and grandchildren and around our homes,” Mary Ann said.
