CV NEWS FEED // The Diocese of Allentown, Pennsylvania, has released a podcast for Catholic parents to help them embrace their role as primary educators of the faith for their children.
The podcast, titled “Ready, Willing, and Able,” is available on major streaming platforms, according to the Diocese of Allentown’s website. It is hosted by Genevieve O’Connor, communications specialist and campus minister at Muhlenberg College, Allentown. The first two episodes feature Mike St. Pierre, superintendent of Catholic Education and a father of four.
The monthly podcast’s introduction explains that its goal is to help parents “bring the richness of the Catholic faith into your family life, so that you, parents who are listening, will feel ready, willing, and able to live into your call as primary educators of the faith.”
St. Pierre stated, “Our hope is that this podcast is a helpful resource and support for our Catholic school parents,” though the podcast also aims to help all Catholic parents.
“The need for parents to feel supported by their Diocese is clear, and we believe that Ready, Willing, & Able is a tangible sign of the partnership between families and schools.”
O’Connor added: “I hope that anyone who listens to this podcast is struck by the richness of our Catholic Faith, and that they see a little more clearly how it permeates every aspect of life, including and especially parenting.”
The first episode, titled “School lets out at 3:30, but being Catholic doesn’t,” helps parents incorporate prayer into a family’s daily routine.
The second episode, “Politics and Parenting,” equips parents to discuss politics with their children in an appropriate way. The hosts discussed “digital citizenship,” which is a term for helping children discern the truth in advertising and media by recognizing what the advertisement is trying to communicate.
