CV NEWS FEED // Ohio’s Catholic community will gather in Columbus Jan. 27 to mark the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade with two events emphasizing the dignity of life and the ongoing mission to protect the unborn.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with the Respect Life Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, which Bishop Earl Fernandes of the Diocese of Columbus and Bishop Daniel Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo will celebrate, according to The Catholic Times.
Bishop Thomas, recently appointed Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, will join Bishop Fernandes to call for prayer and action, particularly in response to Ohio’s recent amendment legalizing abortion before fetal viability and the overturning of the state’s six-week abortion ban.
“We may have overturned Roe, but our work is far from over,” Greater Columbus Right to Life President Beth Vanderkooi said. “We stand united in defense of life and remain undeterred by these setbacks in Ohio.”

After Mass, the Roe Remembrance event will begin at noon at the Ohio Statehouse. The program will feature speeches, prayer, and a rallying call for pro-life supporters across the state to remain steadfast in their mission.
According to Greater Columbus Right to Life, the annual celebration serves as “a time dedicated to remembering those that have been wounded or died at the hands of abortion in the past year,” allowing participants to join “in prayer and unity, and encouraging those who labor against the violence of abortion.”
