CV NEWS FEED // A North Carolina Army training installation has admitted to using presentation slides that falsely characterize pro-life organizations, including nonprofits like Operation Rescue, as “terrorist groups.”
According to a July 24 news release, a whistleblower recently exposed the Fort Liberty installation in a post on X, which showed a slide for training soldiers that characterized Operation Rescue and National Right to Life as “terrorist groups.”
The original post notes that the slide comes “right after a slide about ISIS, a terrorist group in the Middle East.”
“Keep in mind,” the post continued, “they’re not labeling them as extremist organizations (which would still be crazy), but as terrorist organizations.”
Since the post went viral, according to the release, US Army Secretary Christine Wormuth issued a statement in which she admitted that the slide had been used for “at least” seven years.
She went on to offer a partial apology, stating that “non-profit groups such as National Right to Life and PETA, are not terrorist groups and should not be described as such in Army documents or training materials.”
Wormuth’s statement notably fails to mention Operation Rescue, despite occupying the most prominent space on the slide.
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman called Wormuth’s statement “bizarre,” especially since it mentions PETA, an animal rights organization not mentioned on the slide, but “overtly” leaves off acknowledging its characterization of Operation Rescue.
“Operation Rescue has yet to receive an apology or acknowledgement of this profoundly offensive inaccuracy,” Newman continued. “I hope legal action isn’t required to bring resolution in this matter.”
