CV NEWS FEED // A Catholic military wife from New Orleans has founded a non-profit company called Catholic Geaux Bags, travel-sized bags filled with sacramentals for Catholics who are away from home, according to a recent article published by the Clarion Herald.
The Herald reports that Katie Lee first started creating similar bags when she worked for the Archdiocese of Military Services.
“The kits I put together weren’t anything official,” Lee said, according to the Herald. “It was kind of something I could put together for my husband and the other soldiers. I had the Catholic chaplain bless them. The first bags had a scapular, rosary and ‘Fulton Sheen’s Wartime Prayer Book.’”
Now, Lee creates bags for Catholics to bring on military deployment, hospital stays, college life or daily commutes, according to the Herald. Her goal is to create and distribute 5,000 bags, inspired by Jesus feeding the 5,000 bread and fish. She has already distributed 1,300 in one year.
Each bag “contains 12 sacramentals, including a crucifix, rosary, holy water, brown scapular, saint medal, blessed salt, holy card, pocket-sized Bible and other blessed items,” the Herald reports.
Currently, bags have been placed in ICU rooms, hotel rooms, Airbnbs, office spaces, and new homes. Lee’s website lists the conferences and retreats where the bags are available to purchase.
According to the Catholic Geaux Bag website, the non-profit “support[s] the formation of future Church leaders, aiding the education of formators and seminarians.”
