CV NEWS FEED // A Satanic statue on display outside the statehouse in Concord, New Hampshire, has been decapitated again. Organizers set up the display this week after the previous display was destroyed last week.
WSAZ shared a report from Ross Ketschke, a reporter for WMUR in New Hampshire, that an eyewitness, Corinne Stanley, described how a man dressed “in sweats” destroyed the statue.
“I mean, he seemed intent, at the very least, to destroy it, to tear it down,” Stanley said. “It takes a lot to bend a flag pole over your knee, so he was quite angry.”
As CatholicVote previously reported, the first display of the idol Baphomet, the goat-headed symbol of the Satanic Temple, was destroyed Dec. 9. New Hampshire State Rep. Ellen Read (D-Newmarket) had invited the Temple, based in Salem, Massachusetts, to set up a “holiday display” at the Capitol.
Read is a member of the Satanic Temple, and she claimed that the statue is not offensive.
“There were accusations that it meant to denigrate Christians, but there was nothing about it that was denigrating Christians,” she said. “If you don’t want to allow it for all religions, then you don’t have to allow religious displays.”
Concord Mayor Byron Champlin opposed the display.
Champlin said, “This is about an out-of-state group cynically promoting its national agenda at the expense of the Concord community.”
