CV NEWS FEED // Pro-Life Colorado and the National March for Life organization have formed a partnership to host a state March for Life in Denver on April 12, the first of its kind in the state.
Founder of Pro-Life Colorado Brittany Vessely told Denver Catholic that the partnership is important since abortion is now a state issue, not a national one.
“Because the abortion issue is now subject to federalism, national March for Life is supporting state pro-life stakeholders in hosting their own large-scale state marches for preborn children and their mothers,” Vessely explained.
Vessely, who is also the executive director of the Colorado Catholic Conference, said that the March is aimed at the state’s Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA).
“Colorado’s RHEA codifies elective abortion for all 40-weeks of pregnancy, removes “individual and derivative” rights from preborn children at all stages of development, and creates a statutory “fundamental right” to abortion,” she told Denver Catholic.
“RHEA goes far beyond Roe, and it was enacted on April 14, 2022,” she continued. “Colorado’s March for Life is therefore targeted at Colorado’s abortion law, RHEA, and is focused on fighting abortion laws while also promoting a culture of life.”
The March will begin with a Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception celebrated by Bishop Jorge H. Rodriguez. Participants will also attend a rally at the State Capitol and hear several testimonies and talks from pro-life speakers. The March itself will begin at noon.
According to Vessely, the rally and March will occur on a day when state lawmakers are in the Capitol, so they will “hear and see the pro-life movement in action.”
She added that similar to other states, Colorado will likely have a ballot initiative for citizens to vote on in November that would guarantee a constitutional right to abortion. The initiative would also allow taxpayer dollars to be used for abortion.
“It is important that Coloradans who support life make their voices heard NOW, and make this year’s march the largest yet!” she said.
