CV NEWS FEED // Media bias and extensive funding for the pro-choice side likely were key factors in passing Ohio’s Issue 1, which enshrined abortion access into its state constitution, according to a pro-life commentary published by media outlet American Family News (AFN).
Kelsey Pritchard, director of state public affairs for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, told AFN that in the closing weeks of the campaign, $60 million came in from abortion supporters promoting Issue 1.
“When the dollar figures were added up, abortion supporters outspent the pro-life side 3-to-1, a difference of $19 million to $7 million,” AFN stated on November 28.
“Combined with the media bias that we saw is how they won that election in Ohio,” Pritchard told AFN. “It was a similar story to what we saw in 2022 in Michigan and other states.”
AFN continued, “The vast majority of news outlets are liberal and therefore outlets such as The Associated Press and The Guardian worked to persuade the public to approve Issue 1 and protection [of] abortion.”
“It comes as no surprise how biased they were on this issue in Ohio and other states, because they receive funding from the William and Flora Hewitt Foundation, which funds Planned Parenthood,” Pritchard told AFN.
“So the loss in Ohio, Pritchard concludes, can be traced to being outspent and to biased media,” AFN wrote.
