CV NEWS FEED // The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles will host its annual “Las Mañanitas a la Virgen de Guadalupe” Dec. 11. The event includes a vigil of prayer, music, and cultural festivities in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. on the Cathedral Plaza, featuring performances by indigenous dancers and free seasonal treats for attendees.
A relic of St. Juan Diego’s tilma, the cloth bearing the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, will be on display for veneration. This small square of the tilma is the only one of its kind in the United States.
At 10 p.m., the celebration will move inside the Cathedral for praying the Rosary, followed by a musical tribute at 10:45 p.m. The tribute, or “serenata,” will feature performances by acclaimed artists, including Ángeles Ochoa, Carmen Jara, Gustavo Hernández, Julián Torres, and Jacky Ibarra, accompanied by Mariachi Ángeles de Pepe Martínez. The performers will serenade the Virgin with “Las Mañanitas,” a traditional Mexican birthday song, and other musical pieces.
The evening will conclude with a midnight Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez, officially welcoming the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be livestreamed here.
