CV NEWSFEED // On July 22 LOOPCast hosts Tom Pogasic, Erika Ahern, and CatholicVote Vice-President Joshua Mercer went live to discuss President Biden’s announcement that he will no longer seek reelection.
Pogasic began by summarizing the latest events in American politics. “Another weekend of living through history,” he said.
“President Biden might be the most gen-z president of all time,” Pogasic continued. “Announcing his resignation via Twitter, and quietly quitting for the last six months.”
On July 21, the president’s announcement was posted on X and received over 383 million views in its first 24 hours on the platform.
In the letter of resignation, Biden states:
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
“Yeah he’s going to wake up any minute now and be very surprised at what has happened,” joked Mercer.

The hosts addressed the chaos in Biden’s camp and the Democratic party.
“The party is in shambles right now,” Pogasic added. “You get this letter basically saying Kamala has my support, I am endorsing her, you get a substack letter from Obama saying ‘I have faith in the party,’ doesn’t endorse anyone, and says there’s going to be a nomination process. Who knows what is going to happen?”
“It’s even worse than that,” began Ahern. “In that initial letter he does not endorse Kamala, he mentions her. He mentions her and thanks her, but he does not endorse her. It was a follow-up tweet, like half and hour later where he was like, ‘Oh, oh! I forgot to say I am endorsing Kamala!’”
“It’s absolutely bizarre. It’s so late stage republic, you know normally this kind of massive event 107 days before the election, the statesman-like approach to this situation [would have been], ‘I am a serious president, I am the leader of the free world,’” explained Ahern. “You would have a press conference, you would have a speech, you would acknowledge why. This tweet doesn’t even mention why he’s stepping down other than it’s for ‘the good of the Party.’”
Mercer indicated that the lack of Biden’s presence in the media could not be excused by COVID.
“If he’s sick as a dog with COVID, at least take a picture of him signing the letter,” added Mercer. “I mean unless the guy is dead, what is going on? Kamala is going to address the nation before he does. This is very crazy, like, where the heck is he?”
“Does this mean Trump had the most successful debate performance of all time?” quipped Pogasic. “He literally knocked out his opponent.”
“I mean, how do you top this? This is number one. It’s unbelievable,” Mercer replied.
