SWING SENATORS PRAISE FBI REPORT  Senators Susan Collins, R-ME, and Jeff Flake, R-AZ, praised the the FBI’s supplemental background investigation of sexual misconduct allegations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. “It appears to be a very thorough investigation but I’m going back later to personally read the interviews,” said Sen. KAVANAUGH ADMITS HE WAS “TOO EMOTIONAL”  In an unprecedented move, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh wrote an op-ed in which he admitted he was “too emotional” during his recent Senate testimony, but he vowed to be an “even-keeled” justice, if confirmed.  READ
GOP SENATOR MIGHT MISS FINAL VOTE  Sen. Steve Daines, R-MT, said he will be walking his daughter down the aisle on Saturday, no matter what. An expected confirmation vote is set for approximately 5 pm Saturday. If Daines’ vote isn’t needed, the Senate will simply vote to confirm Kavanaugh. But if his vote is needed, the vote will be postponed until very early Sunday morning. (Another possibility: A senator who intends to vote “no” could cast a “present” vote as a favor for Daines, and allow all the senators to return home rather than wait another day for Daines to return. This happened in April when Sen. Coons voted present so that Sen. Isakson could attend his best friend’s funeral.)  READ

ARCHBISHOP: DON’T SAY “LGBT”  Archbishop Charles Chaput said “LGBT” or “transgender” or “heterosexual” should not be used in Church documents and designations. “There is no such thing as an ‘LGBTQ Catholic’ or a ‘transgender Catholic’ or a ‘heterosexual Catholic,’ as if our sexual appetites defined who we are; as if these designations described discrete communities of differing but equal integrity within the real ecclesial community, the body of Jesus Christ,” said Archbishop Chaput.  READ
