FEDERAL FUNDING OF ABORTION   Several House Democrats introduced legislation to repeal the Hyde amendment, which bars federal funding of most abortions. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Colorado Democrat, said: “I believe that for the first time, maybe in our nation’s history, we actually have a pro-choice majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.” The legislation to overturn the Hyde amendment will not pass the GOP-controlled Senate. READ
SECOND CARAVAN HEADS TO U.S.   A new caravan of 2,000 migrants has left Honduras and made its way to Mexico. According to Fox News, Mexicans who live in border towns took to the Internet to lash out against another wave of migrants.  READ
PELOSI EXACTS REVENGE   House Democrats who tried to prevent Nancy Pelosi from getting elected Speaker of the House are getting shut out of powerful committees. Rep. Kathleen Rice, D-NY, was passed over in lieu of several freshmen Democrats for the Judiciary Committee.  READ
JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP CENSUS RULE   A federal judge blocks Trump administration from adding a question about citizenship to the 2020 census. The Justice Department said it was “disappointed” in the ruling. “Reinstating the citizenship question ultimately protects the right to vote and helps ensure free and fair elections for all Americans,” said DOJ spokeswoman Kelly Laco. READ
ATTORNEY GENERAL CONFIRMATION HEARING   Attorney general nominee William Barr told the Senate Judiciary Committee: “I’m not going to do anything that I think is wrong. I will not be bullied into doing anything that I think is wrong by anybody, whether it be editorial boards, Congress or the president. I’m going to do what I think is right.” READ
IMMIGRATION COMPROMISE?  A group of 20 senators (10 Democrats and 10 Republicans) are working together to craft a compromise to fund a border wall and re-open the federal government. To secure Democratic votes, the “Gang of 20” is considering legal options for children of illegal immigrants (known as “Dreamers”) as a part of a possible deal.  READ

WHISTLEBLOWER SYSTEM   Baltimore Archbishop William Lori introduced a third-party system for reporting allegations of abuse. The program was the same proposal that the U.S. bishops were set to consider last November, until the Vatican asked for all proposals to be tabled.  READ
