ANTI-RELIGIOUS BIAS Attorney General Jeff Sessions calls out the Southern Poverty Law Center for using the term “hate group” to “bully” conservatives. “People of faith are facing a new hostility. Really some of it is a bigoted ideology which is founded on animus towards people of faith,” Sessions told the Alliance Defending Freedom conference. “You’ll notice that they don’t rely on the facts. They don’t make better arguments. They don’t propose higher ideals. They just call people names—like ‘hate group.’” READ

YOUTH RESPONSE TO SCANDAL A group of young writers, activists, and professors have released an open letter calling for an independent investigation into the alleged crimes of former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. And these younger Catholics are not calling for the Church to abandon Church teaching, but to promote it: “As Catholics, we believe that the Church’s teaching on human nature and sexuality is life-giving and leads to holiness. We believe that just as there is no room for adultery in marriages, so there is no room for adultery against the Bride of Christ. We need bishops to make clear that any act of sexual abuse or clerical unchastity degrades the priesthood and gravely harms the Church.” READ |

RUIN OF SOULS Tim Carney of the Washington Examiner writes: “Many Catholics in recent weeks have received homilies, or letters in the church bulletin, with the important reminder to keep the faith. To keep our eyes on the center of our faith, which is Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen son of God and the savior of the world. But when you’ve heard this plea — stay focused on the Cross in these tough times — a few times, it starts to sound defensive and diversionary. It starts to sound like: Look away from this ugly scandal of the men who were supposed to care for your soul.” READ
