CV NEWS FEED // In an interview with ABC News, Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine, a man who calls himself a woman, argued that subjecting minors to so-called “gender-affirming care” is necessary for suicide prevention.
Levine, the highest-ranking “transgender” person in the federal government, told ABC: “The treatment options for gender-affirming care for transgender youths really are evidence-based.”
When asked how he would respond to those who argue “transgender medicine” should at least be disallowed until a patient is 18, Levine said: “Adolescence is hard, and puberty is harder.”
“What if you’re going through the wrong puberty?” he added. “What if you inside feel that you are female, but now you’re going through a male puberty?”
Levine argued that while pre-pubescent children should not receive “sex-change” surgeries, they should receive puberty blockers. “Gender-affirming care is mental health care. Gender-affirming care is literally suicide prevention care,” he said.
During Levine’s Senate confirmation hearing, Sen. Rand Paul questioned him about whether he supports “sex-change” surgeries, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers for minors. Levine declined to respond to each question, saying he would be happy to discuss the issue behind closed doors once appointed.
Since being confirmed, Levine has continued to support “gender affirmation care” for minors.
Last summer, Levine’s appearance on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” caused controversy when he said “There’s nothing inherent with being transgender or gender diverse which would predispose youth to depression.”
Levine erroneously claimed in the broadcast that “politically motivated attacks” were the source of the anxiety and depression among children who suffer from gender dysphoria, a mental illness.
“So, we really want to base our treatment, and to affirm and to support, and empower these youths—not to limit their participation in activities, in sports, and even limit their ability to get gender affirmation treatment in their state,” Levine argued.
The Washington Examiner called Levine a “lethally incompetent health official” in 2021, citing Levine’s dismal record as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, when his mandate that nursing homes re-admit COVID positive patients led to hundreds of unnecessary deaths.
“No actual public health need could justify the appointment of someone so incompetent who caused so many deaths in previous positions of public trust,” the Examiner commented.
The article continued to cite reports which found Pennsylvania to be “the seventh-highest state for confirmed cases and the state with the fifth-highest total of deaths from COVID-19.”
