CV NEWS FEED // The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem has protested an Israeli raid launched against a Catholic school in Gaza on the morning of July 7.
The Patriarchate stated in a news release that it is monitoring news of the raids against Sacred Family School with “grave concern.”
“While property of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Sacred Family School has, since the beginning of the war, been a place of refuge for hundreds of civilians,” the Patriarchate stated.
According to Vatican News, the raid targeted two ground floor classrooms that were sheltering Palestinian refugees. Four victims were reported, one of whom was a senior Hamas administration official.
The Israeli army had claimed that the school was a militant hideout used for manufacturing Hamas weapons. The army added that it had attempted to avoid harming civilians during the raid.
However, the Patriarchate stated in its news release that it “condemns in the strongest terms the targeting of civilians or any belligerent actions that fall short of ensuring that civilians remain outside the combat scene.”
“We continue to pray for the Lord’s mercy and hope that the Parties will reach an agreement that would put an immediate end to the horrifying bloodbath and humanitarian catastrophe in the region,” the Patriarchate concluded.
